Historic Spanish Point is a 33 acre archaeological, historical, and environmental museum park located on Little Sarasota Bay. Established as a museum in 1982, it was the first site in Sarasota County to be listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It is open to the public daily, and interprets 5,000 years of human habitation.

"Window to the Past" at Historic Spanish Point. Between 1959 and 1962, scientists started digging around Spanish Point, excavating burial mounds and shell middens, a landfill of sorts for domestic discards. There are shell middens all over Florida, but this is the only one that was cut in half, enclosed in glass and put on public display.

Great history on the waterfront. Jun 2020. I walked through Historic Spanish Point for the first time. As a Selby Gardens member, I am now a member of HSP too and I can't wait to go back. It is a beautiful place to practice social distancing while enjoying nature and becoming absorbed in the history that goes back thousands of years.
